2 July - camp West of Birdsville.

Up to watch the sunrise thanks to the usual bladder call.

Sunrise shots

Was warm and toasty last night with the addition of the flannel liner, hot water bottle and my little mohair blanket.

After sitting around with a view of pinks, blues and grey clouds gave way to bright sunshine, organised myself some porridge for breaky and got Dad the makings of his crumpets I helped Steve out with some more clean up of the glass from back window.

Dad and I packed our shower gear and dirty clothes and headed for Birdsville - sadly no washing machines accessible, but the showers were fantastic. $5.00 to the Police & Citizens Youth Club was a fitting donation. The were large, clean and there were many of them. (We reckon there was 16) The PCYC folk were cleaning after each use. Also handy was a milk crate in each. Handy for putting stuff up on.

Then we queued up for the merchandise for about an hour. I waited for coffee for about 30 minutes. The line to collect ticket was also long at about 10.30am.
In the queues at Birdsville, one for wristbands and stickers and one for merch.

Having got our merch, Dad and I did a little shopping at the general store (also the servo). There were people and cars lined up everywhere.

Then to the other servo shop chasing lithium batteries for SPOT, we ventured to the hardware - alas no batteries. Saw a step just like Steve's which we purchased to replace the one Michael put his foot through.

Then a text from Mary to say Milani was in town and they were collecting tickets, so we snuck in with them and avoided another long queue to collect early bird pass and our wrist bands and some Big Red Bash information.

Then we grabbed a very nice wood fired pizza for lunch.

We then headed back to camp via The Birdsville Bakery for a little something sweet, to another wait in line. Managed to grab a loaf of fresh bread we don't need - but it was in high demand and I was in the right place at right time.

We headed back to camp to find it pretty windy and Mary and Phil's awning has a busted pole. It was still when we had left. Mary and Kate were doing some washing Dad and I did some too, and while preparing at around 3.00 we had a visit from two young members of the local constabulary. They had a bit of a chat and then dropped the clanger - we were not allowed to camp here and needed to move into town common area. They would not be able to patrol people entering the main road to the Bash and if we were here others would think it ok too. Not happy Jan, as we now we had a pack up to do and we were not at all prepared, everyone else was still in town. Sarah and Michael returned shortly and we contacted the others too.
Steve back at camp removing glass from the window

Steve and window.

Hi tech signs in the outback, just not quite right. The Big Red Bash is a big deal.

Our wizz bang - toilet tent.
Tonight's edition brought to you by Phil and Mary, as we were moved into town area, and didn't feel comfortable digging a hole.
We eventually all packed up and headed into town about 4.45. We found a space and settled in. My tent is broken again  and Stef was keen to make a more detailed repair. So we pulled it apart and araldited it together again, the glue needed time to cure, and it was late so we decided on pizza for all except then Willshire's who prepared sausages, mash and peas. Phil and Jadon went into town and were back quite quickly. Dad and I had the vanilla slice which was pretty delicious.

Finished the tent after dark and then packed my bed in etc.

No fire tonight and no toilet tent either, Mary and Phil have kindly donated the christening of their Porta
Potti which is set up in the toilet tent.

Hopefully bed early tonight as we are aiming to get into the traffic snarl with other early birders which will require an early start.

Will try and get some pictures of tonight's camp
